누구에게나 주어지는 24시간이라는 하루는 조각조각 연결되어 하나의 동그라미를 완성하고, 이 동그라미는 다양한 크기로 기록된다. 작가는 주변 환경과 주어진 역할, 그리고 매 순간의 상황 속에서 나누어지는 시간의 조각들에 주목한다. 때로는 묵직한 조각이 만들어지기도 하지만, 부서지듯 뾰족한 파편들로 이어진 하루도 그려진다.
계획표처럼 보이는 작품의 이미지는 사실 지나간 시간에 대한 기록에 가깝다. 시간은 템플릿처럼 초, 분, 시와 같은 단위로 일정하게 구성되며, 하루라는 원을 그리기 위해 점(O), 선(r), 면(π²)의 요소를 차곡차곡 쌓아간다. 보통의 시간표가 미래를 향한 계획이라면, 이 작업은 이미 지나간 시간에 대한 흔적이다. ‘비네트 시리즈(Vignette Series)’라는 제목처럼 시간의 목록들은 ‘기타 등등’으로 흐려지지 않고, 하루에 하나의 동그라미를 그려 나간다.
본 전시는 336시간의 단면을 담는다. 시간은 일정한 단위로 구성되지만, 경험되는 시간은 결코 일정하지 않다. 관객은 작가의 기록을 따라가며, 각자의 지나간 시간이 어떤 질감을 지녔는지 다시 한번 떠올려볼 수 있을 것이다.
